Red Ribbon Bracelets
While bracelets are mostly worn for aesthetic purposes these days, in some cultures they had a special religious or spiritual significance. The ancient Egyptians had bracelets with the scarab beetle stylized on the surface and believed that it would ensure the wearer a long life. Even after death such bracelets were placed on mummies to ensure that they reach the afterlife safely. In Latin America there are bracelets that protect against the 'evil eye'. They are often given to newborn babies to protect them from any evil influences that people may have towards them. But the red ribbon bracelets and others that are around today are a far cry from these long-existing bracelets.
Today bracelets can come in all shapes and forms and are mostly for decorative purposes. Some bracelets, like red ribbon bracelets, may be there to make people aware of issues that are going on around them. Usually made from durable materials that last long but which are inexpensive to make, these bracelets are easily recognizable when worn on a person's arm. Charm bracelets have also been around for a long time and can create a sort of life story of the person that is wearing them while still being a beautiful piece of jewelry. The many different kinds of bracelets are limited only by people's imaginations and there have been some really strange and interesting ones throughout time.
As one of the oldest pieces of jewelry that the human race has, the bracelet is by far one of the simplest. While it has become a simple piece of adornment for most people, it can still have some significance like red ribbon bracelets or charm bracelets. Simple, easy to make and seemingly timeless, the bracelet is probably here to stay for a while.
